Founding Engineer (Python/JS)

Description of role

As a Founding Engineer at this pre-seed startup, you will be one of the first technical hires and have a direct impact on product direction and backend architecture. Working closely with the founding team and our New York-based investors, you’ll design systems capable of handling high-volume data processing on a no-code platform connecting researchers with anonymous respondents in emerging markets.

Your key responsibilities:
• Own and evolve the backend architecture: rebuild, optimize, and scale APIs and services that process millions of data points.
• Drive product development: ship new features, troubleshoot issues, and reduce technical debt while balancing speed and scalability.
• Audit existing stack: assess current tools (Dockerized Python APIs on DigitalOcean, Bubble.io, PostgreSQL, n8n.io), identify bottlenecks, and propose strategic upgrades.
• Ensure reliability: design fail-safe systems for marketplace dynamics, payment flows, and data capture pipelines.
• Collaborate with customers: gather user feedback, understand research challenges, and prioritize enhancements that deliver real value.
• Shape the long-term tech stack: recommend improvements, experiment with new services, and set best practices.
