Platform Engineer

Role Description

As a Platform Engineer at our VC-backed data startup based in London, you will own the design and implementation of our cloud automation strategy. You will work closely with engineering teams both internally and at customer sites to build scalable, secure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code methods. Your contributions will shape how sensitive production data is provisioned and replaced in non-production environments, ensuring compliance, performance, and cost efficiency across all cloud deployments.

Key responsibilities include:
— Designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager templates to automate resource provisioning.
— Developing robust CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and application delivery, integrating tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
— Building automation scripts and workflows (Python, Bash, or Go) for configuration management, operational tasks, and security hardening.
— Implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or CloudWatch to maintain observability and reliability.
— Automating security controls in accordance with industry best practices (e.g., CIS benchmarks, SOC2 requirements) and internal compliance policies.
— Optimizing cloud resource utilization and cost management through automated tagging, rightsizing recommendations, and budget alerts.
— Troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues using programmatic approaches and root-cause analyses.
— Acting as an infrastructure subject-matter expert and mentor to guide development teams through modern cloud architectures.
